deserted ocean

deserted ocean is an original acrylic mix media painting done on a 12" by 36" canvas. I had recently visited my family in Arizona when I got the idea for this piece. We were all out on a hike, walking through the desert, and I was admiring the plants. They were unlike any plants I had ever seen before. Funky things with bright colored flowers, arms and limbs reaching out every which way. Truly beautiful. The more I looked at it, the more I realized how familiar it felt. It looked like the ocean floor, if all the water had been removed. I instantly fell in love with the idea of life prevailing in even the most extreme conditions, both the desert and the ocean. All water, no water...life kept going, kept thriving. I wanted to show how contrasting the two worlds are while also showing how very similar they could be. 
 
This piece will come completed with a glass-like resin finish.
